Crawfish Festival Kicks Off Crustacean Season

BreauxBridge.jpg

Louisiana crawfish might be tiny compared to Maine lobster, but they can taste as sweet. The small town of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana (near Lafayette) is celebrating its signature crustaceans this weekend, May 2-4, with one of the biggest and best food parties I've ever had the pleasure to attend: the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. In addition to steaming pots of boiled crawfish and rich bowls of crawfish etoufee, the fairgrounds have three stages of non-stop Cajun, Zydeco, R&B and Swamp Pop bands playing from morning until late at night. The Cajun Heritage tent runs dance lessons, cooking lessons, and even a session on making a traditional Cajun accordion. Admission is $5 on Friday, $10 on Saturday, and $5 on Sunday.
