Bus battle may force prices lower

And then there were four. Discounter Megabus will offer trips between Boston and New York in late May. It will be going head to head with BoltBus which is launching its service in April.

Both companies have similar pricing: It begins at $1 for a seat if you reserve in advance and gets more expensive the closer it is to departure. BoltBus will offer Wi-Fi and power outlets; Megabus plans to have Wi-Fi but no power outlets. BoltBus will be shoving off from South Station; Megabus from 700 Atlantic Ave. And both are locked in a Texas Death Cage showdown with the Chinatown services Lucky Star and Fung Wah.

All this fighting over us. I'm thinking it's a good thing.

Spring - and love - are in the air

Forget that recession we may or may not be in. Recessions don't last; love does. (Besides, there could be a little economic stimulus check coming your way soon.)

The Hilton Boston Back Bay (617-236-1100) has a Pop the Question package that will make asking - and answering - easy. Stay in the Presidential Suite, with champagne and chocolates on your arrival. Take a limo to Emerge Day Spa & Salon on Newbury Street for spa treatments for two. The perfect time to actually pop the question may be during a chef's tasting dinner at the Top of the Hub. The package starts at $1,650 per couple. (Mention code NR when booking.) Who could say no to that?
