Although not truly emerald, the lush and plentiful parks along the Emerald Necklace bring beauty and elegance to Boston, just as the rare jewel does upon any neck. Frederick Law Olmsted spent 20 years creating the six parks, stretching 5 miles from the Charles River to Dorchester and houses 1,000 acres of land.

The Emerald Necklace includes the Back Bay Fens, Riverway, Olmsted Park, Jamaica Park, Arnold Arboretum, and Franklin Park. The Necklace is the only remaining linear park created by Olmsted that is still intact.

Visitors can stroll through the many rivers, ponds, trees, shrubs, flowers, wildlife, and bridges and other structures these parks have to offer.
