David Shapero spends his lunch hour browsing through the bargain racks outside The Brattle Book Shop on West Street. It's the country's oldest continuously operating bookstore (since 1825), specializing in used, rare, and antiquarian offerings. It looks the part, with its dapple-lit interior crammed with 250,000 books, maps, and ephemera. "A very worthwhile stop," says Mantouvalos. "It's very old Boston."
