STEAMBOAT SPRINGS WINTER CARNIVAL
The Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is celebrating its centennial this year. Started in 1914 by Carl Howelsen, it was initially a way to bring the community together and fight winter’s cabin fever.

Rather than a series of barn dances and sled races, the carnival is now a tighty organized collection of outdoor events along Lincoln Avenue.

The children's events include skijoring, with a horse doing the pulling of a youg skier.

Other events targeted for youngsters include three-legged races while navigating on skis.

The town prepares for the event by dumping 400 tons of snow on Lincoln Avenue.
