Two planes appeared to avoid a near collision at a Spanish airport on Sunday after one airliner began crossing a runway just as the other prepared to land.
NBC News reported that an aviation enthusiast was filming at El Prat Airport in Barcelona when he captured an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A340 slowly rolling through a runway just as a Russian Boeing 767 was about to touch down.
The video above appears to show that the Boeing’s flight crew was able to abort the landing and pull up in time to avoid a likely catastrophic collision, but travel officials from Spain insist there was never any danger.
From NBC News:
An official at Spain’s airport authority, AENA, told Spain’s El Mundo newspaper that there had been enough space for the Russian plane to make a safe landing and that neither airline involved had filed a safety complaint.
The distance between the start of the runway and the point where the A340 crossed it is three-quarters of a mile, according to the Aviation Safety Network.
The Russian plane, from airline UTair, made a safe landing on that same runway shortly after the video was captured.
