Dozens of you have written with news of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Took so long to read through the praise of the place I worked up quite an appetite. Luckily ...

‘‘Poco Diablo’s for some Mexican and the best margarita in the area,’’ writes Rich from Kittery, Maine.

‘‘Muddy River (great BBQ sauce and music) and ... Rusty Hammer where the inventive pizza soup just has to be sampled,’’ chimes in Amy from Spencer, Mass.

Debra from New Castle, N.H., detailed a brewing cafe contest between Breaking New Grounds — an ‘‘old favorite’’ on Market Square — and Popovers, on Congress. Then she wrote again with strong songs for The Green Monkey: ‘‘It is the hottest restaurant in town, always packed. ... Food is outstanding. Atmosphere is warm and lovely. ... I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love the place.’’

But does anyone know what kind of food they serve?

Not important, because I’m stuffed. So on to the advice of Beth, in Brunswick, Maine:

‘‘Portsmouth Brewing Company,’’ she writes, ‘‘for a Smuttynose Portsmouth Lager.’’

Thanks, but I just enjoyed a Shoals Pale Ale on the shores of Winnepesaukee.
