DreamsPunta.jpegThe swim-up bar at Dreams Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was rated one of the top swim-up bars in the world.

It may be winter in New England, but for those who crave the summer sun now is the time to start planning your winter getaway.

The Toronto Sun recently piled together via TripAdvisor.ca a list of the top hotel swim up bars around the world, and the top 10 is worth a little warm-weather dreaming. If your travel personality feels more umbrella-drinks-at-the-beach instead of apres-ski-spiked-drinks, pack an extra swimsuit and escape winter at one of these hotel swim-up bars:

1. Dreams Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: "There was also soft ice cream and popcorn at the pool bar, which was a nice touch."

2. Beaches Turks & Caicos: "If you are looking for the best drinks please make sure that you go to the Italian village pool bar."

3. Excellence Playa Mujeres, Mexico: "The views and the layout of the resort give you space and many choices just to relax and enjoy."

4. Holiday Village Rhodes, Greece: "I loved the idea of sitting on a stool at the bar with water lapping round the waist."

5. RIU Touareg, Cape Verde: "The adults section was worth the extra money with your own 'Adult' hotel blocks, pool area, pool bar, stocked mini bar, selection of optics in your room (brandy, whisky, rum and vodka) and a quiet relaxing environment with no children."

6. North Beach Plantation, South Carolina: "The hotel is on the ocean and has a huge pool area with a pool bar and the view is spectacular."

7. Hotel Mountain Paradise, Costa Rica: "The pool area was something special and we had a hard time getting out of it."

8. Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa, Jamaica: "The lazy river, pool and swim up bar are all very close together. You get a BIG Resort Experience, without the long lines and waits of other hotels."

9. Padma Resort Bali at Legian, Indonesia: "The pool access was amazing...Very private balcony and lovely swim direct to the pool bar."

10. Room Mate Grace, New York City: "The hotel is positioned on 45th Street between 6th and 7th avenues... Hotel itself was great [with a] small swimming pool with a swim up bar - perfect place to relax tired feet and legs."
