JW Marriott Marquis Dubai to be world's tallest hotel
The race to the top is getting higher and higher.
When the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai opens its doors at the end of this year, it will be the new tallest dedicated hotel building in the world, reports Middle East business publication Zawya. Standing at 1,099-feet tall (355 metres), the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai is just 26 metres shorter than the Empire State Building in New York. The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, which sits on floors 102-118 of the 1,588-foot International Commerce Centre remains the highest hotel in the world.
The 1,608-room JW Marriott Marquis Dubai is primed to be the go-to place for business travelers, as well as the luxury market, in the Middle East. The hotel has put design and technology efforts into its meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions spaces (MICE) to attract that a large business market segment.
"The hotel will fill a long identified gap in the market where groups, meetings and conventions of up to 1,000 people can meet, sleep and dine under one roof, in one location," said Rupprecht Queitsch, general manager of the hotel. "There are businesses of this size choosing various cities around the world in which to meet, but until now, Dubai has not had a single location of this size to accommodate this type of group. In simple terms, we will establish Dubai on the global conference market landscape."
The hotel will open in two phases - the first phase will feature 804 rooms and various restaurants and lounges. In total, the JW Marquis Dubai will offer 5,000 square-metres of event space, nine restaurants and five lounges, a world-class spa, health club and two ballrooms.
