The White Barn Inn Restaurant in Kennebunk is joining the food trip craze and, with Chef Jonathan Cartwright in toe, giving guests a chance to learn a little more about lobsters, first-hand. With the newly created "Crustacean Crawl," guests will join the award-winning chef at the White Barn Inn for a leisurely 6-mile tour, learning all about lobsters and finishing with a decadent lobster dinner.
Want to tag along? We got the goods on the trip:
First stop is at the local marina where you'll meet Chef's trusted fishermen and select your own lobster to be cooked that evening at White Barn Inn Restaurant. Learn about lobster freshness, what to look for in the lobsters from the trap, how to know if it's male or female, the importance of shell firmness, and more.
Next, Chef will guide you through a lobster tasting to sample the best of Kennebunk's crustacean creations at off-the-beaten-path places. These not-so-touristy spots will be selected the day of the tour, based on the guests' preferences and personalities, says Chef Cartwright.
The day ends with a full-course dinner at the award-winning White Barn Inn restaurant, featuring your chosen lobster. You'll choose between a 4- or 9-course prix-fixe menu, which changes weekly. Because this is a bespoke experience - meaning it's truly designed for each individual guest - you'll work with Chef to decide how your personal lobster will be prepared and presented.
This bespoke experience must be arranged at least two weeks prior to arrival by calling the Inn directly. Pricing for the Crustacean Crawl begins at $300 per person, which does not include room costs.
And don't forget that the White Bar Inn has a dress policy! Jacket and tie are required for dining. If you forget to bring yours, don't worry: the White Barn Inn and Vineyard Vines have partnered to offer guests a signature Blue Blazer. You can borrow one from the restaurant, or buy your own for $495.
