Hotels, spas offer specials to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

pink-ribbon.jpgOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and around the nation hotels, resorts and spas are offering packages and programs that benefit breast cancer research. If you're up for an escape - or just feel like taking in a few hours of relaxation - and want to help a good cause, check out what these hotels and spas in Boston (and slightly beyond) are doing to benefit breast cancer research and awareness.

The Boston Harbor Hotel is offering three unique experiences to “drink pink”, with 10 percent of all proceeds to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Hotel’s “Drink Pink” offerings include:

  • Rosé Afternoon Tea at Rowes Wharf Sea Grille: Sip for a cause with a special Rosé Afternoon tea featuring pink decorative pastries, a selection of finger sandwiches, scones, tea breads and Devonshire cream and preserves. Afternoon tea is offered daily from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Pink Tea will be available Oct 1- 31, 2013 for 39.00 per person.
  • Rowes Wharf Bar: Two specialty pink-themed cocktails will be available for $15 each.
  • Seasonal Sips Turns Pink at Meritage: Sommelier Nicholas Daddona and Chef Daniel Bruce introduce two new pink themes for Sips this month, featuring pairings of three wines and three small bites. Pretty in Pink: Rose from around the World; and Rose Colored Bubbles: All things Pink and Effervescent for $20 each.

To show your support, go pink! Koukla Salon in the North End will be raising money along with the North End Waterfront Health & Beauty Alliance (NEWHBA) to help the fight against breast cancer. The salon is creating clip-on pink hair strands for customers and guests to purchase and show their support. Each strand is $15 or you can purchase 3 strands for $25. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, created a new treatment - the Inner Strength treatment - inspired by the Inner Strength oil personally created by Aromatherapy Associates’ founder Geraldine Howard during her battle with cancer. This new full-body treatment incorporates a variety of massage techniques and uses a heated compress to warm and nurture the core, all while using guided breath to quiet the mind into a meditative and relaxed state. Aromatherapy Associate’s Inner Strength oil consists of clary sage, frankincense, cardamom, rosemary, rose, vetivert, and geranium -- when blended together help the body feel more grounded.

The treatment is available now, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2013, through the end of the year, and 10% of the cost of each Inner Strength treatment purchased will be donated to the Jimmy Fund.

If you happen to be on the other coast, the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco is also hosting a few treatments, with proceeds going to benefit breast cancer awareness. The hotel's Brasserie S&P will also feature pink beverages at Happy Hour during the month of October, with proceeds going to breast cancer research.

At The Omni Bedford Springs, in Bedford Springs Pennsylvania, the hotel is hosting a variety of events and activities to support Breast Cancer Awareness. The Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, various in-house raffles and auctions, and an annual “Pink on the Links” golf outing, are just a few of the activities happening on site at the hotel with proceeds that will benefit the cause throughout the month of October. Last year, the resort raised over $33,000 through their initiatives.

The Surrey in New York City is offering a special Champagne Pedicure to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month. The 60 minute pedicure is $95.00/person and includes two signature Cornelia cupcakes, a small bouquet of pink roses and dried lavender.
