MOboston-spa-entrance-2.jpgThe holidays are stressful. Office parties, unlimited calorie consumption and of course, the dreaded conversations around the dinner table with your family.

This time of year is when most of us – happy as we may be – start to panic over pumpkin pies and without warning, consume more eggnog than we had originally planned.

Here's the thing: it happens to everyone.
Here's what to do: treat yourself to a little serenity at the spa.

The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston, Massachusetts’ only Forbes Five-Star spa, is offering its holiday signature treatment, the Frankincense Massage Ritual, for the month of December.

I had the privilege of trying out this treatment before it was available to the public and I can say with certainty, it's the perfect holiday treat.

"Frankincense is grounding and it allows the opportunity for you to breathe a little deeper," said Sharon Holtz, the spa's manager. "It's the essential oil people need most at the holidays. It gets rid of stress, it's calming and warming."

Frankincense Massage Ritual begins with a warming foot bath and a consultation with your spa therapist to tailor the treatment to you. The focus of the massage is on the back, neck and shoulders, but if you have other problem areas just let your therapist know and they'll adjust the treatment, accordingly.

The De Stress Mind Body Oil – a combination of wild chamomile, frankincense and petitgrain oils – is used for your massage, and the treatment finishes with deep inhalations of the Frankincense Essential Oils and a soothing scalp massage.

As a holiday gift from The Spa, guests booking this treatment will also receive Frankincense Essential Oil to take home to use throughout the holidays. The entire treatment is 1 hour and 20 minutes and is available through Dec. 31, 2013. Call the spa or book your service online.

sprayology1.jpgWhile you're at the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, don't forget to stop by the spa gift shop. I poked after my treatment and found some great holiday gift ideas, including these gifts from Sprayology. The homeopathic line of oral sprays focus are various concerns. Choose from Stress Relief, SleepEase, AllergEase, Party Relief and more. The three-pack gifts are $70 in the spa. And of course, don't forget to allow some extra time to enjoy the relaxation areas. It's the holidays – you deserve it!
