FTG-BarBoulud-CreditB.Milne_.jpgRumors spread like soft butter on crusty bread last week about Chef Daniel Boulud's potential entry into Boston. Finally, it was confirmed, and foodies around the Hub salivated at the news: Bar Boulud will open at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston this fall.

But what does this announcement mean to the culinary landscape of Boston? With a new celebrity chef in town, will that mean more tourism to the city, or more wait times at restaurants?

For a story in Forbes Travel Guide, I spoke with the Mandarin Oriental, Boston, about this news and got to the bottom of the rumor mill:

“I can say on behalf of all of our colleagues at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, we are extremely excited to welcome chef Daniel Boulud to the property later this year,” says Alain Negueloua, the hotel’s general manager. “We are thrilled to be the home of his first venture in Boston and know that chef Boulud will deliver a phenomenal dining experience that reflects Mandarin Oriental’s standards of excellence and serves as a complement to the city’s already incredible culinary landscape.”

As for how this will balance Boston's restaurant scene:

“There are many great restaurants and chefs in Boston, and I’m truly looking forward to being an addition to the chef community,” Chef Daniel Boulud says. “It is also a pleasure to be working again with Mandarin Oriental, after a successful partnership in London. Bar Boulud at Mandarin Oriental, Boston will be filled with energy, a great range of wine selections and soulful bistro cooking to create a vibrant eating and drinking destination.”

If you're a fan of Asana and MBar at the Back Bay hotel, there's still time to enjoy the menu and ambiance before the space is handed over to Boulud this September. Asana and MBar will remain open until construction begins for Bar Boulud in early June
