Eagle scouting
New Hampshire Audubons Amoskeag Fishways Learning and Visitors Center, Manchester, welcomes all ages to Family Friday Nights every other week to study wildlife, from bugs to moose, along the Merrimack River and watershed area. On Dec. 19 from 7-8 p.m., participants will learn about winter hawks and owl pellets.
Bald eagles are really a phenomenon in urban areas of New England with major rivers running through the cities, said Helene Dalbeck, director of Amoskeag Fishways. If you look closely, youll see them even in Boston. Here in Manchester, when we do winter surveys, we often see 17 or 18 of them in a day.
N.H. Audubons Prescott Farm Audubon Center, Laconia, offers Preschool Pioneers, a hands-on, monthly exploration of nature for ages 4-6 with a parent or guardian. On Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m., they can join a teacher-naturalist to learn which birds stick around in winter and make a feeder to take home.
