The avian world
At the Museum of Science exhibit A Birds World, kids crawl on their stomachs and walk in silence in a Sneaking Corridor, testing their ability to stalk a bird. Dozens of mounted birds in cases are grouped by habitat, showcasing their diverse sizes, colors, and shapes. A good introduction to bird behaviors is the free brochure (also downloadable from the museum website) Watching Wildlife Through the Eyes of Birds.
And if winged flight is part of your fascination, dont miss the incredible variety of colorful beauties flying free in the museums Butterfly Garden. You need to purchase a timed ticket for your brief visit to the almost tropically warm conservatory where electric blue, creamy yellow, red and black, polka-dot and tiger-striped butterflies and luna moths float through the air. Cameras are welcome.
