A sweet spot in Littleton, N.H.

Chutters in Littleton, N.H., lays claim to the world's longest candy counter, a three-tiered 111-foot, 11.75 shelf that runs the length of the store and has earned a place in "Guinness World Records." This confectionary haven boasts hundreds of jars of candy, about a dozen of which contain old-fashioned penny candy. Grab a small paper bag and start filling it with your mix of nostalgic treats: Mary Janes, Caramel Creams, Pixy Stix, Sugar Babies, wax bottles, and rock candy. You'll also find a mind-boggling assortment of jelly beans, licorice, lollipops, chocolates, and "plenty of critters in the gummy form," says Jim Alden, who runs the shop with his wife, Lynn Beal. Alden and Beal make about 30 kinds of fudge onsite and offer more than a dozen sugar-free can dies and chocolates.

43 Main St., Littleton, N.H., 603-444-5787.
