Lighthouses of New England

One of the most remote lighthouses in the state, the Mount Desert Rock Lighthouse, built in 1830, is located about 20 miles southeast of Mount Desert Island. Since the 1970s, the College of the Atlantic, located in Bar Harbor, began to use this location for offshore studies of marine mammals and seabirds. *Not open to the public.
