LEONARD'S MILLS, Maine - Professional blacksmiths will demonstrate fancy forging, and members of the public can try some simpler tasks at the annual Blacksmiths Roundup Saturday on the grounds of the Maine Forest & Logging Museum.

The morning is devoted to demonstrations, said Cathy Goslin, the museum's executive director. In the afternoon, blacksmiths will help visitors use tools and outdoor forges to create objects such as hooks, curtain rods, knife blades, and door hinges. Children are welcome to dip candles, press apples for cider, split cedar shakes, row a bateau, and take a ride in a horse-drawn wagon. Participants can also visit the museum and grounds.

Blacksmiths Roundup, Sept. 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Maine Forest & Logging Museum at Leonard's Mills Historic Settlement, Route 178, Bradley, Maine. 207-581-2871, leonardsmills.com. Adults $5, 12 and under $2.
