What we liked most: The scones. Flaky and not too sweet, they're perfect with morning coffee.
What we liked least: Having to leave.
What surprised us: The rooms are named for places in Brooklyn, rather than nautical themes or seaside towns.
You know you're at the Stone Lion Inn when . . . You see the large stone lions flanking the entrance and out near the street.
Rates: Summer and holidays (July 1-Labor Day), $145-$160; fall (Sept. 6-Oct. 30) $120-$135. Rates include a full, homemade breakfast buffet. All rooms have private baths, air conditioning, and a queen-size bed. Call or check website for other seasonal rates, as well as cottage and apartment rentals.
Directions: From the Sagamore Bridge follow Route 6 to Wellfleet. At the sign directing you to Wellfleet town center and harbor, make a left at the light onto Main Street. Proceed less than half a mile and turn left onto East Commercial Street. The inn is half a mile down on the right.
