What we liked most: Having both the privacy of our own cottage and the convenience of the nearby beach and restaurant.
What we liked least: Getting spiked in the head by a piece of the lighthouse light.
What surprised us: That the heated pool was packed but the beach was nearly empty on a glorious summer day.
You know you're at the Lighthouse Inn when . . . the light atop the main building flashes every six seconds.
Rates: Rooms and cottages for two range from $239- $310 in summer; larger cottages are available for three or more .
Directions: West Dennis is about 75 miles or 90 minutes from Boston. Take Route 3 south to Route 6 to exit 8 in Dennis. Take a right onto Station Avenue . At the third set of lights, turn left onto Route 28. After about one mile, turn right onto School Street. Follow for a half-mile, and take a right onto Lighthouse Road . Turn left onto Lighthouse Inn Road .
