Encore Bed & Breakfast

116 West Newton St.

617-247-3425; encorebandb.com

What we liked best: The Bang & Olufsen radio with remote control that we worked from the bed.

What we liked least: Having to choose the night before what time we wanted breakfast.

What surprised us: How easy it was to feel like we were on vacation in our hometown.

You know you're at Encore when . . . your room is named after a famous composer, playwright, or choreographer.

Rates: Prices range from $140 to $195, depending on season and length of stay. We paid $190 for the Bernstein room.

Directions: The nearest MBTA subway stop is Back Bay Station. For drivers, from the intersection of Tremont Street and Mass. Avenue, head northeast on Tremont to West Newton Street, turn left, and 116 is the first row house on the left. Double park and ring the buzzer.
