Applegate Bed & Breakfast
279 West Park St., Lee
413-243-4451, 800-691-9012
What we liked most
Our hosts, Gloria and Len Friedman, who we figure must have retold their story of acquiring a mansion inn 2,432 times, yet still manage to seem absolutely thrilled by it.
What we liked least
No early morning coffee and an excessive number of items for sale, including the terrycloth bathrobe in our closet.
What surprised us
True tranquillity and breathtaking Old-World beauty a three-minute drive from the Massachusetts Turnpike.
You know you're at Applegate when . . .
You gaze up, way up, at some of the oldest and tallest apple trees in New England on the magnificent 6-acre property.
Rates: Five rooms $115-$175 off season (November-Memorial Day), $140-$230 in season. Five suites $195-$245 off season, $260-$310 in season. Cottage $225-$330 year round. Three-night weekend minimum in summer; two-night weekend minimum in fireplace rooms in winter. Single-night rooms sometimes available.
Directions: From the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90), take exit 2 (Lee) and follow Route 20 west to stop sign. Go straight and the road becomes West Park Street. Applegate is half a mile down on the left, across from the Greenock Country Club.![]()
