If you dont function till youve had your first cup of coffee, you want to know whos brewing a pot early. Along with the caffeine jolt, theres another advantage to hitting the restaurant at 6 a.m.: no wait for a table. On the other hand, youll be surprised at how many people are already there. Many a Cape restaurant has a regular breakfast club that congregates around a big table. The club at Pie in the Sky in Woods Hole usually shows up around 7. But a steady stream of regulars appears from 6 on. Youve got carpenters eating before the lumberyard opens, photographers taking advantage of great morning light, and the Steamship Authority staff revving up for the ferry runs. For Dan Tritle, thats already a tad late. Tritle, the Morning Edition host on WCAI, the NPR station in Woods Hole, bikes to work from his Falmouth home. My goal is to be in the station by 5, he says. I usually get on the bike path at 4:20 or so. The only thing I encounter are little animals scurrying out of the way. Pie in the Sky is open when I get in about 4:45. ... Theres a nice camaraderie of early morning risers. To go with the camaraderie, Pie serves its own fresh-roasted organic coffee, handmade croissants, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches.
