Sky Freyss-Cole
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
Designed as the centerpiece of a revitalized downtown, the hall had its grand opening in mid-May after the $2.4 million expansion and renovation of a former church. The property, including its signature hand-carved, primitive-style doors created in 1976 by itinerant artist Johnathan Kendall, had been neglected for some time. The year-round cultural center will host concerts, lectures, and other entertainment. Scheduled so far are Edinburgh harpist Maeve Gilchrist, who will bring her folk-jazz fusion June 11; Witness to an Extreme Century, with Robert Jay Lifton and James Carroll discussing Liftons memoir on July 17; IBIS in concert on July 21, with Susan Robinson of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and her husband, Joseph Scheer, concertmaster of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra; and the New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band on Aug. 2. 335 Main St., www.wellfleetpreservationhall.org.
