Ponds and lakes in Rhode Island
Watchaug Pond, Charlestown
Burlingame State Park is a massive holding of some 3,100 acres of rocky woodland surrounding Watchaug Pond, a prime freshwater swimming hole of some 1,000 acres and a popular summer spot with free admission. The beach is wide open and clean and right next to a shaded picnic area with 50 fireplaces, toilets, drinking water, and a state-run boat launch. The day I visited, families sunned on the beach while others grilled chicken and burgers over open flames in the shady grove.
