Ponds and lakes in Rhode Island
Spring Lake, Burrillville
This town-owned lake is cool and not only for its refreshing water along the sweeping 750-foot beach. The arcade here is full of vintage wooden entertainments, including a Chicago Coin Horse Derby, and my favorite, an old, clacking mechanical baseball game, 15 balls for a nickel.
There are also food concessions, paddle boats, canoes, and regular entertainment. The beach is snuggled in a cozy little waterside colony deep in the woods, and you can enjoy it on the cheap:
A nonresident day pass is $3. Spring Lake Beach Facility, 50 Old Hillside Drive, www.burrillville.org, 401-568-9474
