Ponds and lakes in Rhode Island
Tiogue Lake, Coventry
Kelly Gurtin and her family have lived in town for several years, but one recent hot July day, she said, was her first visit to Briar Point Beach here.
As her three little ones, Abriella, Emilia, and Caden, munched thick slabs of pizza from nearby DePetrillo Pizza and Bakery, Gurtin said, This is nice, its quiet, its close, and theres no traffic to get here. And for the kids, theres no waves or undertow. Theres ample parking at the beach, and a giant shade tree at the rear of the sand popular with people escaping the sun.
Its $10 for nonresidents, and its never crowded entry is limited to 25 nonresidents and 50 residents. Briar Point Avenue, www.town.coventry.ri.us/parks.htm, 401-822-9107
