Ponds and lakes in Rhode Island
Olney Pond, Lincoln
Lincoln Woods State Park, the first in Rhode Island, was created 101 years ago as a getaway for the city folk of Providence just five miles south. Now people come from all over to dip into the cooling waters of this 126-acre pond (the park is 627 acres). Of the 6.5 million visitors to the 15 state parks in Rhode Island two years ago, 2.3 million came to Lincoln Woods.
The beach is ample, wide open, and free. Eastern Mountain Sports has a kayak center here, and you can rent one for $55 for the day or $20 for an hour. 2 Manchester Print Works Road, www.riparks.com/lincoln.htm, 401-723-7892
