18 Great Holes

4. 18th hole at Essex Country Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea Dick Haskell, who retired in 1998 after 30 years serving as executive director of the Massachusetts Golf Association, says that this par 4 is 'an exciting finishing hole.' The hole plays 388 yards from the white tees, 408 from the blues, and is a par 5 of 410 yards for women. Haskell says 'it's an easy hole to win [in match play], but an easy hole to lose.' His recommendation: The tee shot means everything. Depending upon wind conditions ... you'll need to drive it 200 to 220 yards.
