Inspired by his experience as a captain in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War, H. Richard Hornberger, a surgeon, wrote the novel, M*A*S*H. Using the pseudonym Richard Hooker, Hornberger had the book published in 1968. In 1970, the book was turned into a movie by the same name and then a television series in 1972. The show, which ran for 11 years, was one of the most popular series in television history.
