Magic Mountain ~ Good Friday

Posted by Ethan Binns March 25, 2008 11:54 PM

There was a solid coating of ice on everything at any elevation in southern VT. The trees were making a ton of noise with the extra weight on them. The cool thing is the sun came out Friday afternoon and skies stayed clear the rest of the weekend.

A profile of Glebe Mountain - home of Magic, the ski and snowboard area, there is a lot more than meets the eye up there

Magic Mountain was the destination for turns on Good Friday. As you approach the mountain on Route 11 from Londonderry, VT the steep terrain is right in you face. The closer you get the bigger and steeper it looks.

Magic Mountain is not a ski area for every person.

However, if you enjoy affordable, challenging, no crowd skiing -- it is worth a look. The mountain has the best advanced skiing and riding in southern VT and some of the best tree skiing in all of New England. If you anywhere south of Killington in VT and you have a powder day to deal with – make the Magic happen.

A view of Stratton from the western slopes of Maigc. Funny thing is you can barely notice Magic from Stratton, unless you know where to look. A true vanishing act... Note the icing on the trees.

The Red Chair is the ski areas primary lift -- and has been for the last few decades.

Like the Groomies?

You can actually find groomed snow all over Magic. Especially mid-week -- some of those trails will not even see any traffic for days after the Piston Bulley mills them out.

S.G. Lunch Tip: There is a very high-end fine dinning place in South Londonderry called the Three O’clock Inn. The Village Store (yellow building where 100N crosses the West River) is the same folks. The place has excellent lunch sandwiches, get them grilled and be patient.

Magic Mountain is looking good to pick up 6-8 inches eraly Friday morning into the day tomorrow (3/28). There is still A TON of base there. Even without anything fresh from the sky it will corn up for some great spring skiing as temps warm...

Make a trip to Magic Mountain. Just be able to take care of yourself there
