The Storm Impact

Posted by Ethan Binns December 12, 2008 01:47 PM

Icing was a problem. It will continue to be a problem.

Very cold air is on the way into New England. Many of the southern areas are going to being dealing with hard and fast conditions tomorrow. One would imagine currently they are doing everything in their power (no pun intended) to groom the ice out of the snow surface.

Saturday should be a nice day to ski. Most of New England will be in the 20’s and prevailing sunshine. Kind of a bummer, because if that storm tracked another 50 miles south the “Day Trip” would have been the business this weekend.

The northern areas did well. The snow line fell somewhere between Okemo (2”) and Killington (10-12”) in VT. New Hampshire’s northern spots all averaged 6 to 8 inches – the line there was North Conway & Lincoln.

S.G. Best Bet: Killington, VT on Saturday. According to their website, the lifts are closed today. They are apparently “Saving It” (it = foot of new snow) for the 50th Birthday Party tomorrow. There will be a ton of celebrating up and down Bourbon Street North Sat night.

From the website snow report

Unfortunately, due to the weather Killington lifts will not spin on Friday. Our entire fleet of World Class Snow Groomers, plus the Most Extensive Snowmaking System in the world is tackling the mountain to provide the best possible skiing and riding experience for this weekend.

We're expanding our terrain for this weekend to include Snowshed Slope as well as the opening of Snowshed Lodge. For Saturday, we expect to have trails for all ability levels and 12 lifts open.

You may have to drive a ways to find em, but New England has some good ski conditions this weekend.

Think Snow,
S.G.
