If you've been thinking of taking up skiing or another winter sport, this is the week to make it to New Hampshire and Vermont, as both states are offering free lean to ski and ride opportunities as part of the national Learn a Snow Sports Month. (Maine's learning programs for this month have already sold out.)

There's a limited opportunity to sign up in Vermont, where spots for this Saturday and Sunday are dwindling. To sign up in New Hampshire, you just need to fill out this form, then call your preferred resort to make a reservation.

Both promotions run through Sunday.

For more information on getting started, check out our tips for first-time skiers.
