While warm temperatures have forced some ski areas to push back their opening dates, Stratton Mountain Resort opened for the season on Wednesday, and Wildcat Mountain will open with special hours on Thanksgiving (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) and will offer $15 lift tickets servicing limited terrain.
Other resorts slated to open by this weekend include Smuggler’s Notch, Mount Snow, Jay Peak, and Cranmore, but all openings will of course depend on the weather, which has delayed things elsewhere. Be sure to check conditions before you go.
Cannon Mountain is among those who had to push back their opening, thanks to an “inversion pattern,” that has made for difficult snowmaking conditions. Cannon now hopes to open Nov. 30. Warm temps have also pushed things back at Burke Mountain, which now plans to open Dec. 1.
Let’s hope this isn’t a pattern, but Tim Kelley seems optimistic that cold fronts and some semblance of snow are en route.
