From the archives: Vintage skiing photos
According to this 1946 AP photo caption, "The modern skier doesn't have to spend half his day trying to get to the top of the slope for the all-too-brief run down. The Skimobile at North Conway, N.H., carries them from the base of the station to the top of 2,052-foot Cranmore Mountain. In the background are the sun decks where tired skiers can rest and sun themselves."
