The eight most comforting words in the American vernacular must be, Can I warm that up for you, hon? Or so it seems when dawn is breaking, the grill is sizzling, and youre hunched on a stool reading a newspaper over coffee.
Between 1907 and 1957, the Worcester Lunch Car and Carriage Manufacturing Co. built 651 diners. Only a fraction survive, but with their porcelain-enamel exteriors and real wood trim, they are as timeless as the reasonably priced comfort food on their menus.
