
6. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
Standing about 140 feet high, the Mausoleum was a tribute to the king Maussollos. Built in present-day Turkey by the Persians, the structure included a sprawling array of statues that added glamour to beauty, some of which survived and are on display in the British Museum in London. The term mausoleum was coined by this project. Crusaders destroyed the mausoleum.
