The pyramids are the lone survivor of this group of ancient wonders and, as a result, the Egyptian Culture Minister has said the new seven wonders project is "absurd" and demeans the pyramids special place in history. Yet the pyramids connect the modern world to a distant past, to the time when they were hand-built in 2560 B.C. to honor the pharaoh Khufu.
