The closest thing to an evening gown found at this ball is a frilly negligee accessorized with a garter belt. Founded by a one time presidential candidate for the Nudist Party, the Exotic Erotic Ball gives frisky types an opportunity to dress up in naughty costumes and dance with like-minded extroverts. The party features a DJ set from Tommy Lee (naturally), P-Funk royalty George Clinton, and Thomas Dolby , plus burlesque, contortionists, and something called ``fantasy tickling." General admission tickets are $59.50. Sorry , junior, this soiree is strictly 21-plus.

Perhaps the folks in Aruba should contemplate renaming their festival ``A Couple of Mismatched 1980s Acts Get a Beach Vacation" (catchy, no?). This year's festival features shows from Styx (sans Dennis DeYoung) and Lionel Richie. Could be worth the $40 price of admission if only to tell your friends that security dragged you out of the venue for singing along to ``Lady" or ``Ballerina Girl" too loudly . Bermuda is far more successful with its programming. This year's Bermuda Music Festival includes sets from Gladys Knight, India.Arie , Charlie Wilson, and the pint-sized wonder known as Teena Marie. Four - day passes start at $200 ; travel packages are also available.

During the day, it's a conference to discuss the business of dance music (which seems destined to remain mammoth in Europe, and marginal in the United States), but at night, the Amsterdam Dance Event takes over 30 clubs with more than 300 DJ s spinning across the capital city. Highlights include Paul van Dyk, DJ Spooky, Norman Cook spinning under his Mighty Dub Katz moniker, John Digweed, and the insanely catchy Dutch dance act Kraak and Smaak, which is named for a Dutch proverb and not street narcotics. See the website for ticket information and event details.

This festival begun in 1994 brings to Norway's capital the requisite flamenco guitar expert and oud prodigies, but what distinguishes it are acts such as a German gypsytechno ensemble, a performance by Algerian pop god Cheb Mami, and a salsa versus hip-hop smack down. Tickets $25- $50 are sold individually.
