Janis Owens, 58, and Caroline Roy, 56, both of Duxbury, belong to the same book club. They love travel books, so they decided to create an adventure of their own in Italy.

One of the first stops was Lake Massaciuccoli with the Mediterranean behind it. The hills we hiked down, with our guide Gabriele Tebano, were once a popular spot for the Romans.
