Explore Great Sand Dunes National Park
The Great Sand Dunes in Colorado, named a national monument in 1932 and a national park in 2004, stretches for 30 square miles and is the result of a peculiar, endless cycle of natural recycling, in a place where the sand has nowhere else to go. In a surprising moment, a beam of light poking through the overcast managed to hit a solitary mound of sand in the middle of the park.
