Celebrated documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will be judging our latest photo contest on national parks. The grand prize winner will also receive a signed copy of Ken's latest project "The National Parks: America's Best Idea."

Ken Burns
From jazz to baseball to the American Civil War, Ken Burns has won critical praise for historical documentaries. Exhaustively researched, his films magnify sweeping human events and popular culture, bringing both into context and clarity. An Oscar nominee, he entices his audience to rethink the American experience. His latest project is about America’s national parks, and will premiere in September.

North Cascades National Park
About 60 national parks are included in the National Park Service network. From Maine to California, they are home to some of the most diverse wildlife and breathtaking views in the world. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said of our national parks, "There is nothing so American as our national parks. The fundamental idea behind the parks is that the country belongs to the people..." The rules
Thirty of the best entries will be selected by Boston.com staff for a finalists' gallery. Ken Burns will select the grand prize winner. In addition to the distinction of being selected as the winning photographer, she/he will also receive a copy of the film "National Parks: America's Best Idea," signed by the filmmaker.

LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. Photos must be submitted by Sept. 11, 2009, at noon (EST). The winner will be notified via e-mail on Sept. 17 at 5 (EST). Finalists will be announced on Sept. 16. Employees of the participating partners and The New York Times Co. and their affiliates are not eligible to participate.
