Gramercy Park Hotel 2 Lexington Ave., New York
212-920-3300
The Rose Bar opens at 5 p.m., and on afternoons when the crowd is thin its pool table may be the best place for a game in the city. (The pool is free but wine goes for as much as $16 a glass). Or enjoy lunch beneath a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat in the Jade Bar ($100 for two). Later in the evening, good luck getting in. The hotel's rooftop deck and bar and Park Chinois, a high-end Chinese restaurant, are scheduled to open later this fall. Ready to check in? Rooms start at $525 and go to $2,500 for a custom suite. (Taxes add up quickly: A basic room with queen bed and a view of a brick wall ends up costing $633 .) Beware, too, the price of getting a shirt pressed: $16.![]()
