Family and Friends A Big Part of Why Folks Travel to Vermont

The restored 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga at Shelburne Museum, in Shelburne, Vermont, is a National Historic Landmark. Built in 1906, the Ticonderoga operated on Lake Champlain until 1953. Two years later it was moved overland from the lake to the museum in a remarkable feat of engineering that stands as one of the great feats of maritime preservation. There are plenty of reasons to travel to Vermont.

With its 808 lakes and ponds, more than 7,000 miles of rivers and streams, 1,000 miles of hiking trails, 50 state parks, 100 campgrounds, 223 mountains over 2,000 feet in elevation (Vermont’s highest peak is Mount Mansfield at 4,393 feet), and 19 downhill ski areas, there is so much to do and see.

But a new tourism survey says many folks who travel to Vermont are influenced to go there by family and friends, reports the Associated Press.
