The Ski Guru Ethan Binns skied all over western Massachusetts and southern Vermont (he has fond memories of days and nights on the slopes of the now-defunct Mount Tom in Holyoke). Though he moved to Boston for six years after graduating from UMass-Amherst, Binns still managed to ski an average of 30 days a year. In 2003, he relocated to Vermont to work as the marketing director for a ski / snowboard area. Today he is the Ski Guru, bringing you the latest alpine news from all around New England.

Ski Guru Special: Chairlifts are Spinning!
Weathered last week’s rain? Not all, but the big boys certainly did, and the reports are that the skiing, even now, is of high-quality! Granted the conditions are spring like, but that is no reason to turn up your nose just yet. Check Snow Country to see if your favorite is still in the game and when they may plan on shutting it down.

Billboards...
Not Legal in Vermont. Only one of the reasons why there is no better place on the planet to ski. The Green Mountain state is genuinely the Guru’s spot. Maybe it is because of the familiarity of the terrain. Or the green tags. Home of Snowboarding? (hardly making the list).

Skiing on Grass
No quite yet, but getting there hastily. A friend from Jay Peak told me that her basement flooded yesterday. Jim is writing about "detrimental" rains across New England. All is not lost thanks to a huge four weeks of snow from mid Feb – early March.

Hamming it up...
Saturday there was not a cloud to be seen from Jay Peak, VT. Temps were in the 40’s, direct sun - probably 50’s. No wind. Perfect spring skiing. This season Jay Peak has recorded 326” of snow. That’s more than 27 feet, which is actually pretty standard for the East’s powder headquarters. All of it was on exhibit this Easter weekend.
