Sick Day - Wednesday

When I got around to reading the Saturday morning 12/11 report from Jim Roemer www.bestskiweather.com I smiled. Why you may ask? Because I got on the telephone and booked a condo up at Jay Peak for Monday night after reading his 12/9 report, which was posted for all of you to read (East on Alert) way back when on Thursday evening, at the time no other meteorologist was even mentioning this snow event.

Personally, I am geared up to do some powder skiing. It has been very difficult seeing the rest of the country get absolutely pounded with snowfall while we got hot water (a.k.a. rain) here in the East. Being totally spoiled by two huge Nor’easter’s in early December last season made it that much worse.

You have no excuses for missing the first big powder day of the season for us in the East. Think about it, we only get a dozen or so of these opportunities on a good year. Ask the boss first thing Monday morning for Wednesday off, if denied - CALL IN SICK! Tuesday it is supposed to be fairly windy, which is why I think Wednesday will be the real gem. Check in on your favorite resort with Snow Country.

As a follow up to his Thursday report, below find Jim Roemer’s Saturday update. I am telling you, this guy is the real deal when it comes to forecasting, if you want to plan a trip you should check out his long-range outlooks.

ROEMER 12/10/04 AM REPORT

NEW ENGLAND---MAJOR LAKE EFFECT SNOWS AND MOUNTAIN UPLIFT COMNG FOR NEW ENGLAND---CONFIDENCE 80-90%

Major snows to hit New England Sunday night through Tuesday with at least 10-15" Stowe, Whiteface, Jay Peak, Sugarbush to N. New Hampshire and Sugarloaf and Sunday River. It would not surprise me to see N. Vermont get 1-2 feet in areas around Jay or Stowe. Killington will get at least 6-12" and possibly a foot+. There has already been 2-6" of snow in these areas since yesterday with snow falling in N. Townships to Tremblant.

Stratton, Okemo, Magic Mtn., Sunapee at least 4-8" after miserable rain, etc. the last few weeks.

Ski Windam and Hunter Mountain.

MAJOR CHANGE TOWARDS COLD AND SNOW IN THE EAST THROUGH THE 20TH.

WESTERN U.S.
Cold front swinging across the Plains Monday could bring a foot or more snow to Jackson Hole and at least 3-6" to Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and possibly Vail. Another system likely Wed. night and Thursday with modest amounts of snow some areas--Crested Butte, Telluride and Wolf Creek could get nailed with lighter amounts further north. Pattern change develops after that with drier weather

Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, Snowbird/Alta, Brighton, etc. amazing conditions. Check avalanche web sites to see about potential problems, since there has been 2-4 feet of snow the last 5 days. 3-6" of snow likely these areas Tuesday night or Wed. with a 50% chance for isolated 1-foot amounts. Drier pattern develops after Thursday for at least 5-7 days.

CANADA
Mt. Tremblant to N. Townships got good snows and another 4-8" ore more likely by Monday/Tuesday with some areas getting a foot. Excellent ski conditions coming up.

Fernie, Whistler into Banff should get good snows the next day or two. Whistler and Fernie need more snow after some recent rains, etc., while Sunshine Village to Sun Peaks and Lake Louise have had more consistent snow.

Pattern becomes drier than normal most of next week.
