Sugarbush & Killington Conditions

I am sitting at Pizza Jerks on the Killington Access road composing this in their kitchen. I heard they opened a brand new Internet café; it will actually be online this weekend, which is why I am in the kitchen. Stop in or call (802) 422-4111 for all your pizza emergencies. They will also be having a Halo Frag Fest in the new pad on two Tuesdays 1/4/05 & 1/11/05. To sign up (only room for 16 competitors) $25 per person call (802) 342-6031 or email fragfest@cyberjerks.net. Pizza Jerks, the best pies in Killington.

Sugarbush – Skied there on Wednesday 12/15. It was shocking how good it was and this is from the same guy who was at Jay Peak the day before, in all honesty the snow at the Bush was of the exact same caliber as Jay’s. The sun was shining and the South Basin was loaded with powder and packed powder. Absolutely unreal skiing and riding up on Lincoln Peak, everything of the summit triple was open. I hit a few wormholes up in the Paradise Glade and found huge waist deep stashes of fresh powder. Stein’s Run and The Mall to name a few were also killer, huge soft powder bumps. Here is the word, they are opening Castlerock tomorrow, Friday 12/17. It was already poached though, I was not the responsible party, but I could see the tracks. They were also making snow all over the place. Sugarbush is decked with snow for the holidays.

And get this, I had some time to kill so I took a ride down route 17 to Mad River Glen for a quick glance at General Starks Mountain. It looked stacked with snow, but what's worthy of note was that they were making snow on the practice run! Today was their first day of the season and one can only imagine it was epic.

Killington – Got out today 12/16 for about a dozen runs. Not surprisingly, I found fantastic mid-winter conditions. Another bluebird day with an unlimited ceiling and crystal clear visibility. You could see everything from Camels Hump to Mount Washington from the K1 Gondola. There were even still stashes of windblown powder if you knew where to look. I hit some of the goods on Upper Ovation (skiers left), High Line (don’t mind the twigs) and Vertigo was laden with white gold. Great skiing and riding at Killington and you guessed it, they were making snow all day. The resort plans to have Needles Eye open tomorrow. I was actually surprised at the amount of people out there for a Thursday, but who could blame any of them it was spectacular…
