Mr. Whiteface to you...

MLK Jr. Day is this Monday 1/17/05, and you’re staring down the barrel of a three-day weekend. No plans locked in yet, try something new. Whiteface! Sure, I know your thinking it is a little extra windshield time (4.5 hours from the hub on a good day), but you also have an extra day on the slopes ahead of you. Plus, the resort is in New York, which means the bars and pubs (they have a ton of nightlife in Lake Placid) will still be thumping even if you pull into town in the wee hours of the morning.

The Olympic committee did not pick this place to host the 1980 Winter Olympics by chance. The mountain offers up some serious vertical - 3,166 feet of lift serviced slopes (3,430’ if you care to do a bit of hiking up to the Slides). Parks and pipes your deal, in 00/01 they unleashed a new 13 acre terrain park with a 450’ Super Pipe.

You like BIG Air? This Friday and Sunday, Jan. 14 & 16 at the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex – The U.S. Ski Team blasts into Lake Placid for the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup after sweeping both of the men’s podiums in aerials and moguls last weekend at Mont Tremblant, Quebec.

You a Bumpah? This Saturday - Jan. 15 the venue is on the Wilderness course at Whiteface Mountain. Grab a front row seat to catch Jeremy Bloom and others ripping through the bumps. All you need is a lift ticket to get you on the mountain.

Also in attendance: Whiteface anticipates having Olympic Medallists Joe Pack, Travis Mayer, Kari Traa, Deidra Dionne, Janne Lahtela and Ales Valenta competing.

Admission to Friday’s and Sunday’s aerials is $10 for adults, $6 for juniors and seniors. A lift ticket or season pass is all that’s needed for a box seat alongside the Wilderness course for the mogul competition on Saturday. Awards will be handed out on-site following each event.

Whiteface!
