Marching In with Style!

Conditions right now in New England are at a season’s best. The skiing and riding everywhere is unbelievable! A lot of areas have tallied FIVE feet of new snow in February! The Guru’s phone has been ringing of the hook with reports from friends in Ski Country screaming of untracked, deep fluffy powder in the trees and trails of soft packed snow. Excellent skiing and riding be plentiful, whether you fancy the areas in MA, NH, ME or VT you will not go wrong this weekend.

The storm system that is moving through this evening is definitely on a southern track, but is should deposit at least a few inches to the higher elevations up North, check Snow Country tomorrow morning to find out what happened at your favorite area. Also, keep a close eye on the forecasts for Monday night into Tuesday, it is still a ways away but we could be looking at the largest snow storm of the year!

March is the BEST month to ski in New England. We have gotten through the cold dog days of winter and the sunlight stays strong until the lifts stop spinning. The month includes tons of huge events and St. Patrick’s Day! The season is still far from over. Even though you are seeing images of palm trees from Fort Myers (1500 miles due south of Boston) as the Sox get ready to defend a World Championship does not mean it is time to store the skis and boards away in the basement.

One thing the Guru has always been bothered by is the timing of the industry. I know it is all advertisement driven for holiday gear sales, but really... First issues of skiing and snowboarding magazines land on the coffee table in August. Ski Shows in October and November. Everyone is so fired up to get out by Thanksgiving and Christmas and more often than not resorts are struggling to open top to bottom terrain. Leaving a sour taste in many a visitor’s mouth once they are back home. Granted there are the exceptions, like last season when New England got hammered with two early season North Easters, (Dec 6 & 7th 30+ inches across the mountains, some areas chiming in with close to 50. Followed by another two footer on the 16th & 17th, but this is generally not the rule).

Spring Skiing is where it’s at, not only in New England, but across the country. Places in Lake Tahoe (the Guru's posse out there is loving life), Little Cottonwood Canyon and New Mexico are having historic seasons. All Strong Guru Recommendations for a spring break, snow style! Check out Squaw Valley, Heavenly, Taos, Snowbird and Alta if you are up for the experience of a lifetime.

NOW is the time! Everything is 100% and getting better by the snowflake. March is stepping up in style.
