Sparkling sunshine and cool temperatures will be on the weather menu for the rest of the week. High temperatures today will remain in the 60s and if you are in the shadows of a building or trees this afternoon there will be a chill to air. The sun this time of the year is about as strong as it is in March. September is one of those transitional months between the heat of summer and the cooler weather of fall. We can still experience heat, but the trend is for cooler weather to win. This weekend our weather looks mostly dry Saturday with a chance for a shower towards the Cape. As a cold front moves through New England Saturday night and Sunday there is a better chance for showers. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s to near 70 during the afternoons and in the 40s and 50s at night. Foliage this weekend
This time of the year the foliage is rapidly changing especially across northern and western New England. The higher you go, the better the color this weekend. A cold morning across Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine has prompted frost and freeze warning.
The cold weather is helping to bring on stronger colors. The best weather to view foliage will be Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon across the north. Later Saturday and for the first few hours of Sunday clouds and the chance of showers are in the forecast. It will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s depending on where you are this weekend (northern New England) with the coolest weather in the mountains.
Today and Friday
Across southern New England there are some patches of color but we still need to wait a few weeks for the best show. The next two days looks to be sunny and seasonable with low humidity and not much wind. Have your camera at the ready because some of those early turning maple trees will look amazing against the dark blue sky. Around 2PM this afternoon the temperature should reach about 65F with tomorrow being a few degrees warmer. When you see the high for the day, remember that is the maximum temperature for 2-3 hours. It’s going to be cooler much of the rest of the time.
There are two chances for rain this weekend but neither looks to major. The first chance, most likely to happen across southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, is going to be Saturday. Even with the chance for a quick shower, there will still be sunshine in the forecast with temperatures around that 70F mark. Most of us stay dry.
On Saturday night and into the first part of Sunday a front will push through the area from the north and west. This front will bring a better chance for showers and more clouds. The front should move through in the morning leaving clearing skies and some sunshine for the afternoon. All in all this will not be a bad weekend and I will give it a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Gardening this week
This time of the year many weeds are creating seeds to produce new weeds for next spring. There are several things you can do right now, to make your garden closer to weed free for 2013. In this video I show you how I help control weeds in my own garden without using chemicals.
